Best Birthday Dinner- A la Sex and The City Style!

The best exotic restaurant in New York City happens to be a minute away from my apartment.
Quite often I passed this restaurant and felt tempted to sneak inside for quick getaway and wrap a Cosmo in my hand and forget about all the other shenanigans, but it never happened...until last night. My best friend in the whole wide world- yes, Veronica- planned an unforgettable and delicious dinner at the famous Chelsea restaurant, Buddakan!

Our bubble of bff's was perfect. I felt very blessed to be sitting in a table full of great friends who through it all...still love me :) We sipped on some cocktails and soon our table became a feast with some of the most rich and delicious entrees!

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is seeking to celebrate a special occasion- the decor is stunning, the food is delicious, and the service was outstanding!

Thank you Veronica and friends, and thank you Buddkan for having us last night!

XOXO

So Over 23! ON TO THE NEXT ONE!!!!!!!!

Dear Readers- IM 24 TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember turning 23 last year. It was a day similar like today in New York City, cold, crisp with just enough sun outside. My sisters Evelyn and Ashley were visiting from California, ready to spend a couple days in NY to celebrate my birthday in the city. I remember sitting down for dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the city, Mama Mexico, on 113th and Broadway. The restaurant was not too crowded, the food was great, the mariachi was entertaining and the tequila shots ...not going to lie, were delicious! At the end of our dinner, my sister handed me a pile of birthday cards from my family back home. I read them, cried a bit (cried a lot actually), smiled, and I remember just thinking in my head- I WISH FOR NOTHING ELSE THIS YEAR BUT FOR HAPPINESS. I WISH HAPPINESS UPON MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND NEIGHBORS AND EVEN FOR STRANGERS.

Not, going to lie- a lot happened this past year for me. My crazy and wreckless 23 has toned things down to a a mature and much more ambitious 24.

It was just a year ago when I found myself new in the city of hopes and dreams- soaking every part of NY day and night. Walking the streets of Manhattan, breathing in my environment and the NY culture that still surprises me til' today. Today, I noticed everything about me that had changed within a year period. Although I haven't reached my ultimate educational goal- I am closer and more passionate. Although I walk the same streets and take the same subways, my walk is more confident, my thoughts are more positive from sun rise to sun set, my body isn't as afraid to take bigger and wider leaps. I have become a self-motivated individual. I am independent.

I have come to accept the fact, that every morning I will miss my family. I will cry from time to time because they aren't around me to hug and to laugh with- but I also understand this year more than ever that they are and will always be right behind my every move and support my NY dreams and goals.I was reminded this exact morning of this at 3am by my great friend Olivia. She sent me a birthday present from California that went through quite an adventure these past couple days to get to my Chelsea apartment. When I opened my present, it was a frame with a collection of photographs from some of the most memorable moments I have ever spent at home with my family. Being the cry baby that I am- my heart completely burst into emotions and I immediately had tears running down my cheeks. What a present! Within our conversation, holding my present and Skyping...She made me realize just how lucky I am, and how it's ok to miss everything and everyone that is back home- because even from a distance, they truly are always with me.

I decided already today, that I am going to have a great, first day of being 24! I had a talk with God this morning and said,"I know I woke up late today again, Thank You for giving me a couple more minutes of sleep- and, Thank You very much for giving me an amazing 24th Birthday!

On another note, my BFF was amazing and incredible to plan a special something for today!!!! I'm not sure what she planned or where we will be having dinner at, but what I do know is that like Carrie Bradshaw- today I must get a dress, and that dress must look fabulous, and I must be fabulous like my dress! :) I'm not sure what I will wish for yet when I blow out those big bright candles tonight, it's tough to wish for anything when you are already jam packed with love and happiness- then again...I guess some more lovin' can't hurt anyone!

Can't wait to celebrate...all month!

sin bandera love is in the air

The Miranda Look

THURSDAY- law of attraction

C'est ma vie. Its my life. If I don't attract the very best to be on my side at the end of the day- I'm not doing my job. If I don't wake up motivated to be in the city where all dreams are possible- I'm not doing my job. If I don't walk into school and feel challenged with the education that is being thrusted under my skin- I'm not doing my job.

I'm not trying to be a motivational speaker this morning, but this thought came into my head at 6am as I was running in the morning. My alarm rang at 4am sharp. The day was dark and still raw. I layed in bed holding my cell phone in front of me looking at the time.

I stood still and thought...Ahhhh- really..do I really really need to get up right now?

Answer: You have emails waiting, you have to run, you have to go work, you have to schedule eight meetings, you have to study, you have to follow-up on your photo shoots- yes...you really REALLY need to get up!

So I did

I went through my emails and responded to everyone I needed to. I went for an amazing run that made me appreciate my mornings a bit more. ( BTW: God knows I've never really been a runner- but I'm definitely loving it...It's soothing to clear my head early when the sun is coming up, I get a great start to my day feeling nice and healthy, I sing to my favorite music even if everyone thinks I'm crazy and oh yeah...my legs are looking pretty sexy too) anywho- Igot ready for work and picked up my favorite coffee and newspaper on my way to work. I'm not sure why but, even though I've always been a fan of magazines- I've come to enjoy reading the paper in the morning more recently. Anyway, I realized today again that hard work+hard work+coffee= amazing life. No one else is going to give me the amazing life that I want in the future. I am the planner and the designer and the builder of my own beloved life- how I will be living 10-20 years from now, will always ultimately be up to me. If God let's me that is. But seriously, how awesome is that!
We get the opportunity to shape, mold and form our own lives.

So- lets get creative here people. Let's not try to settle for the things that only seem possible but for the things that truly seem impossible instead- for the things that appear to be out of reach but are truly closer to us when we take a second look.

It's going to be a beautiful day!

WEDNESDAY- PIZZA, COMPLIMENTS, THE CITY, AND SINATRA

I'm in love. As of today, I officially ended my relationship with my salad and started having an exciting and thrilling rendez-vous with my pizza! Today, I bravely stepped away from my comfort zone from the regular cheese and pepperoni and tried the Mama Margherita pizza that has fresh tomatoes, basil, and melted mozzarella cheese on top! What a party it was inside my mouth! I can't believe how delicious this Pizza is! I usually dial some of my family and friends during my lunch- but this lunch....ahhhhh! I just needed my 30 minutes to think of nothing else but the sensation my taste buds where going through!

On another note, I had an amazing gentleman approach me during lunch.

He was an elderly man- I'm guessing somewhere between his late 70's or early 80's. He came in singing Frank Sinatra and he looked at me with a smile and said,
" Young lady, Do you know who sings this song?"

I responded back and said,
"Yes, It's called- I've got you under my skin by Frank Sinatra."

He then smiled again and said, "Yes, you are right! It's a beautiful song, just like you. Enjoy your lunch."

Not too bad for lunch hu? :)
Great food, great compliments, great everything!

I feel happy

TUESDAY.MARTES.MARDI

Yes, I feel quite cultural this morning. I'm repeating myself in 3 different languages as of five minutes ago- English, Spanish and French...and I think I like this game. I have to have my daily dose of humor some time during the day- otherwise work gets the best of me and that isn't going to happen anytime soon. This morning someone TRIED to ruin my day. I was on the verge of running out of my building, getting in the subway and heading out for a day out in Central Park to eat Gray's Papaya-when all of sudden I decided to stop and breathe for a good ten seconds to compose myself instead.

So, since today is still getting up to beat, I am going to talk to you about last night instead.
I got off work, did my laundry, got groceries, cooked, ate, catched-up with the roomies, ate a delicious tub of vanilla ice cream (please don't judge me) and I talked with my family in California. What really made my night last night though, was hearing my little sister Yeny.
She said,

"I bought myself some Rollerblades on accident. You see, I went on-line to look at Rollerblades and when I saw the ones I wanted; I clicked on them. I started filling out the information and then kept pushing the "Next" button to see what would happen. Then...I'm not sure what happened. I think I pushed the button too many times and I got a confirmation saying that I was going to receive my Rollerblades soon. But, I'm glad I did it- I really really wanted to get Rollerblades."

I couldn't believe it! My little sister, making on-line purchases! Buying herself roller blades, because she really really wanted them! It made my day! I literally smiled so big that I could feel my heart smiling too. She's getting older, she's growing up, she's making her own decisions, she's shopping and she's not using mom and dad anymore for the things that she really really wants. I became super proud of her. It takes a lot for a person to amuse me and awe me and inspire me and motivate me and captivate me- but my little sister does this all the time every time. Every time she shares her days with me I am amazed of how much she is learning and growing and I think to myself, wow... she truly is amazing.

This post is dedicated to my little sister, a beautiful person- inside and out- that gets what she really really wants.

XOXO

MONDAY- Please leave a message after the tone...

I disappeared for the weekend. I put away my cell phone, did not check a single e-mail, did not check missed calls, nor messages nor voice mails, nor did I think about work or duties or to-do's. I did not do my laundry, I did not go buy groceries and I did not cook.I did not read. I did not sleep in. I was out and about in New Jersey and came to the conclusion at the end of last night that I should definitely consider having more ME days. Me days as in; Liliana gets to do whatever she wants over and over again, without fear, regret, or a sign of holding back.

As much as I love getting work done on the weekend, this weekend I HAD to let go. I laughed the loudest, I rode on the tallest roller coaster, I ate a giant stick of blue cotton candy, I drank about a gallon or two of Sprite, I ate dipping dots, I had Panda Express and I had Johnny Rockets, I took pictures and I sang in the car and I listened to amazing music, I went to a high school birthday party, I saw the most amazing red, orange and yellow leaf trees. I smiled.
I walked more than any other day. I had the sun shinning on my face.

Today Monday, I am ready to tackle yet another day of work. I am on coffee #1 and plan to keep drinking coffee until I start recuperating from an unforgettable weekend.
